Birth & Call

Baby Moses in the Basket

Exodus 2:1–10
God's Protection
Moses' mother Jochebed placed her baby in a handwoven basket and set him on the Nile River to save his life from Pharaoh's deadly decree. His sister Miriam watched from the reeds as the basket drifted — straight into the arms of Pharaoh's own daughter. What looked like an act of desperate courage was actually the opening move of God's extraordinary plan to set an entire nation free.

God protects and has a plan for you

No situation is too hard for God. When you feel small or afraid, remember He sees you, He loves you, and He is already at work in your story — just like He was in Moses'.

Jeremiah 29:11
A Short Prayer

Dear God, thank You for watching over me just like You watched over baby Moses in that basket on the river. Help me trust Your plan even when I feel afraid and can't see what is ahead. Amen.

Moses Grows Up in the Palace

Exodus 2:10–15
Identity in God
Rescued from the Nile and adopted by Pharaoh's daughter, Moses grew up surrounded by wealth, power, and every luxury Egypt had to offer. Yet no palace could erase the truth written on his heart — he was an Israelite, and his people were suffering. When Moses witnessed an Egyptian beating a Hebrew slave, something in him could not stay silent. His sense of identity and justice would cost him everything, but it was also the first step toward his true calling.

Life Lesson
Know who you are in God — nothing else compares

Moses had riches, a palace, and a powerful name — but none of that could tell him who he truly was. Only God can do that. When you know you are deeply loved and chosen by God, you stop needing the world's approval to feel worthy.

1 John 3:1

Dear God, help me remember who I am — Your beloved child. Even when the world pulls me in different directions and tells me I need more to be enough, keep my heart anchored in Your love. Amen.

Moses Flees to the Desert

Exodus 2:15–22
Seasons of Waiting
After killing an Egyptian to defend a Hebrew slave, Moses fled for his life into the wilderness of Midian. A prince one day, a fugitive the next. Yet even in the desert, God did not abandon him. Moses sat down by a well, defended the daughters of a priest named Jethro, and found a new home, a wife named Zipporah, and forty years of quiet preparation. What felt like exile was actually a classroom — God was shaping a shepherd into the leader His people would need.

God uses desert seasons to prepare great things in us

Moses spent forty years in the wilderness thinking his story was over. God was just getting started. The skills, patience, and humility he learned as a shepherd were exactly what he would need to lead two million people through the same wilderness one day. Your waiting season is never wasted.

Isaiah 40:31

Birth & Call

The Burning Bush

Exodus 3:1–15
God's Call
On an ordinary afternoon tending ordinary sheep, Moses noticed something extraordinary — a bush that blazed with fire but was never destroyed. When he turned aside to look, God called him by name. I AM WHO I AM spoke from the flames, commissioning a stuttering fugitive shepherd to march into the most powerful court in the world and demand the release of an entire nation. Moses had every excuse. God had every answer.

Moses Before Pharaoh

Exodus 5:1–6:13
Courage & Obedience
Moses and his brother Aaron walked into the throne room of the most powerful man on earth and delivered a message that no one had ever dared to speak: 'Let my people go.' Pharaoh laughed. He made life harder for the Israelites. The people turned on Moses. And Moses went back to God feeling like a failure. Yet God's answer was not retreat — it was a promise. I am the Lord. I will bring you out. Watch what I am about to do.

Joshua 1:9

The Ten Plagues of Egypt

Exodus 7:14–12:30
God's Power
When Pharaoh refused to release the Israelites, God sent ten devastating plagues upon Egypt — water turned to blood, frogs, gnats, flies, diseased livestock, painful boils, hail, locusts, three days of total darkness, and finally the death of every firstborn in Egypt. Each plague targeted something the Egyptians worshipped, showing the world that the God of Israel was more powerful than every god of Egypt. Pharaoh's heart grew harder with each miracle — until the night everything finally broke.

Ten plagues. Ten opportunities for Pharaoh to choose differently. God was patient, thorough, and unstoppable. When He sets out to rescue someone He loves — including you — nothing in heaven or on earth can stand in His way.

Jeremiah 32:27

Egypt & Exodus

The First Passover

Exodus 12:1–30
Sacrifice & Grace
On the night before the great Exodus, God gave Israel an extraordinary instruction. Every family was to slaughter a perfect lamb, paint its blood on the doorposts of their home, roast the meat, and eat it in haste with sandals on their feet. When the angel of death passed through Egypt that night, every home marked with blood was spared. Every home without it was not. The Passover was not just a rescue — it was a profound foreshadowing of a greater Lamb whose blood would one day cover the whole world.

The Passover was not just a miraculous rescue from Egypt — it was a preview of the greatest rescue in history. Jesus, the Lamb of God, shed His blood so that death would pass over all who trust in Him. Grace this costly is grace that changes everything.

John 1:29

Dear God, thank You for providing a way to save us — not because we earned it, but because You love us. Help me never take Your grace for granted, and help me live in a way that shows I understand how much it cost. Amen.

Egypt & Exodus

Crossing the Red Sea

Exodus 14:1–31
Faith Over Fear
The Israelites had barely left Egypt when Pharaoh changed his mind and sent his entire army after them. Hemmed in by the sea in front and six hundred chariots behind, the people panicked and screamed at Moses that he had led them to their deaths. Moses stretched out his staff, a mighty wind blew all night, and the Red Sea split in two — walls of water on the left and right, dry ground in the middle. Two million people walked through. When Pharaoh's army followed, the waters collapsed. Israel was free.

Life Lesson
God makes a way when there is absolutely no way

The Red Sea was not a setback in God's plan — it was the stage God chose to display His power. The Israelites greatest moment of panic became their greatest moment of rescue. When you feel completely surrounded with no way out, that is often exactly where God does His most breathtaking work.

Exodus 14:14

The Pillar of Cloud and Fire

Exodus 13:21–22
God's Guidance
From the moment Israel left Egypt, God made His presence unmistakably visible. A towering pillar of cloud moved ahead of them during the day, keeping them cool in the blazing desert heat and showing them exactly which way to go. At night it became a pillar of fire, lighting the darkness and keeping them warm. When the cloud moved, they moved. When it stopped, they camped. For forty years, God led His people step by step — never too far ahead to follow, never leaving them to figure it out alone.

Life Lesson
God guides us every step — we just need to follow

The Israelites never had to wonder where God was — He was right there, visible, leading every single day. He still guides us today through His Word, His Spirit, prayer, and the wisdom of others. The question is not whether God is leading — it is whether we are paying attention and willing to follow.

Psalm 119:105

Manna from Heaven

Exodus 16:1–35
Daily Provision
Six weeks after leaving Egypt, the Israelites ran out of food and began to grumble bitterly — wishing they were back in Egypt where at least they had full stomachs. God heard their complaints and responded not with punishment but with provision. Every morning, a thin flaky substance called manna appeared on the ground with the dew. They could gather enough for the day but no more — any leftovers rotted by morning. God was teaching them the most important lesson of their journey: trust Me one day at a time.

Trust God one day at a time — He has never missed a morning

Manna could not be stockpiled. It had to be gathered fresh every single day. God designed it that way on purpose — He wanted His people to wake up each morning and come back to Him. That rhythm of daily dependence is still His invitation to us. His mercies are new every morning. So is His provision.

Matthew 6:11

Water from the Rock

Exodus 17:1–7
God's Faithfulness
The desert sun was relentless and the water had run out. The Israelites turned on Moses with a fury, shouting, quarrelling, and demanding to know if God was even among them anymore. Moses cried out to God in desperation. God told him to take his staff, walk to a specific rock at Horeb, and strike it. Moses obeyed — and water gushed out, enough for two million people and all their animals. God provided abundantly, not because the people deserved it, but because He had made a promise — and He keeps His promises.

Life Lesson
God is faithful — even when we are not

The Israelites quarrelled, doubted, and accused God of abandonment. God provided water anyway. His faithfulness is not based on our performance — it is rooted in His own unchanging character. That is the best news there is: when your faith runs dry, God's faithfulness does not.

Lamentations 3:22–23

The Battle Against Amalek

Exodus 17:8–16
Prayer & Community
When the Amalekites attacked Israel in the desert, Joshua led the army into battle below while Moses stood on a hill above with his staff raised toward heaven. As long as Moses hands were raised, Israel advanced. When his arms dropped from exhaustion, the enemy gained ground. Moses could not do it alone — so Aaron and Hur sat him on a stone and held his arms up until sunset. Israel won a complete victory. The battle was fought with swords below, but it was won by prayer above.

Aaron and Hur did not carry a sword into battle that day. They carried Moses arms. Sometimes the most powerful thing we can do for someone is simply refuse to let their hands fall — through prayer, presence, and stubborn loyalty. No one wins alone, and no battle is ever just physical.

Galatians 6:2

The Ten Commandments

Exodus 20:1–17
God's Law & Love
Moses climbed Mount Sinai into the thunder, lightning, and thick cloud where God was. For forty days he stayed in God's presence, receiving the law. When he came down, he carried two stone tablets engraved by the finger of God Himself — ten commandments that would define how God's people related to Him and to each other. These were not a burden placed on free people to make them slaves again. They were a love letter — a father explaining to his children how to live a beautiful, just, and flourishing life.

God's rules are love letters, not prison bars

Rules feel like a cage until you understand they are guardrails on the edge of a cliff. God gave the Ten Commandments because He loves His people deeply and knows exactly what kind of life leads to flourishing and joy. Every one of His commands is an act of grace from a Father who wants the very best for His children.

Matthew 22:37–39

The Golden Calf

Exodus 32:1–35
Idolatry & Repentance
Moses had been on the mountain for forty days when the people grew impatient. Deciding that God and Moses had abandoned them, they pressured Aaron into making a golden calf from their jewellery and declared it the god who had brought them out of Egypt. When Moses descended and saw the celebration around the idol, he shattered the stone tablets in grief. Yet even in this devastating moment of rebellion, Moses interceded for the people with extraordinary passion — and God's mercy prevailed.

Life Lesson
We all wander — and God's grace is always greater

The golden calf was made from the very jewellery God had provided when Israel left Egypt. Even our blessings can become idols when we love the gifts more than the Giver. But the most stunning truth of this story is not how badly Israel failed — it is how quickly and fully God's mercy responded when Moses interceded. That grace has not changed.

1 John 1:9
A Short Prayer

Dear God, forgive me for the times I have put other things before You — good things, comfortable things, things I love more than I should. You are worth my whole heart. Pull me back when I wander, and thank You that Your grace is always bigger than my failure. Amen.

Moses' Face Shines

Exodus 34:29–35
Transformed by God
After spending forty days alone with God on Mount Sinai, Moses came down carrying the new stone tablets. He did not know it — but his face was shining with a radiance so intense that Aaron and the Israelites were afraid to come near him. Moses had to put a veil over his face when speaking to the people. He had been in the presence of the Living God, and something of that glory had rubbed off on him. He was the same man — but visibly, undeniably different.

Moses did not walk down that mountain trying to glow — the radiance was simply the overflow of time spent face to face with God. That is still how transformation works. We do not manufacture holiness or try harder to shine. We draw near to God, and He changes us from the inside out. People around us notice before we do.

2 Corinthians 3:18

Building the Tabernacle

Exodus 35:4–40:38
Worship & Craft
God gave Moses extraordinarily detailed plans for a portable tent-temple — the Tabernacle — where His presence would dwell among His people in the wilderness. He called on specific craftsmen, filling them with His Spirit to give them skill, intelligence, and knowledge in every kind of craft. The people responded with breathtaking generosity, bringing gold, silver, bronze, fine linen, acacia wood, spices, and jewels — so much that Moses had to tell them to stop giving. When it was finally completed and dedicated, the glory of the Lord filled the Tabernacle so completely that even Moses could not enter.

Life Lesson
God wants to dwell with His people — and He always moves in

The Tabernacle was never just a beautiful tent. It was a declaration: I am not a distant God who watches from afar. I am moving in. Every detail — the gold, the curtains, the lampstand, the altar — pointed to a God who desires intimacy with His people. That desire was fully realised in Jesus, who tabernacled among us in flesh and blood.

The Twelve Spies

Numbers 13:1–14:45
Faith vs Fear
Standing on the edge of the Promised Land, Moses sent twelve spies ahead to scout it out. They all saw the same beautiful land flowing with milk and honey. They all saw the same fortified cities and powerful inhabitants. But ten came back saying we are like grasshoppers compared to them — we cannot do this. Two — Caleb and Joshua — came back saying we can certainly do it, because God is with us. The people listened to the ten. Ten spies saw impossible giants. Two spies saw a faithful God. Same land, same giants, same facts — completely different faith. The question in every hard situation is never how big is the problem. It is always how big is the God standing beside me. Caleb and Joshua answered that question correctly. We can too.

Numbers 13:30

The Bronze Serpent

Numbers 21:4–9
Healing & Salvation
Tired of the journey and grumbling bitterly against God and Moses, the Israelites were bitten by venomous snakes and many of them died. When the people repented and cried out, God gave Moses an unusual instruction — make a bronze serpent and lift it up on a pole. Anyone who had been bitten only needed to look at it to be healed and live. Centuries later, Jesus pointed to this exact story and said: just as Moses lifted up the snake in the wilderness, so the Son of Man must be lifted up, so that everyone who believes may have eternal life.

The Israelites had to turn their eyes toward the bronze serpent in faith. What does that teach us about how we receive God's help?
3
Jesus said He would be lifted up just like the bronze serpent. What do you think He meant by that?
4
The cure was completely free and available to everyone — they just had to look up. How is that similar to how salvation works through Jesus?
5
Is there something in your life right now where you need to look up to God instead of focusing on what is biting you?
Life Lesson
Look to Jesus — salvation is simpler and closer than you think

The bronze serpent required no special effort, no long journey, no impressive act of faith — just a simple, humble look upward. God made the remedy as easy as possible because He desperately wanted people to live. Salvation through Jesus works the same way. It is not earned or achieved. It is received by simply looking to Him and trusting what He has done.

John 3:14–15
A Short Prayer

Dear God, thank You for making the way to You so clear and so simple. When the things of this world are biting me and pulling me down, help me turn my eyes upward to Jesus — the One lifted up for me — and find healing, hope, and life. Amen.

Moses Sees the Promised Land

Deuteronomy 34:1–4
Hope & Longing
At the end of forty years in the wilderness, God led Moses to the summit of Mount Nebo and showed him the entire Promised Land — from Gilead to the Mediterranean Sea — stretching out before him in breathtaking beauty. Because of one moment of disobedience at the rock of Meribah, Moses was not permitted to enter. He could see it, but he could not cross. Yet even in this deeply bittersweet moment, God's grace shines — God Himself showed Moses the land, buried him personally, and Scripture says Moses died with his strength undiminished and his eyes undimmed. He finished well.

How do you think Moses felt standing on that mountain, able to see the Promised Land but knowing he could not enter?
2
Have you ever worked really hard toward something and not quite got to see it come to fruition? How did that feel?
3
Is it fair that Moses could not enter because of one mistake after forty years of faithfulness? What does this teach us about obedience?
4
God Himself buried Moses and no one knows where his grave is. What does that tenderness tell us about God's heart toward Moses?
5
Moses work was not wasted — Joshua led the people in after him. How does knowing that our faithful work outlives us change how we approach our calling?
Life Lesson
God's plan is bigger than our disappointments — and nothing faithful is ever wasted

Moses did not enter the Promised Land — but everything he did made it possible for the next generation to do so. His story did not end the way he might have hoped, but it ended faithfully. God never wastes a life lived in obedience. Every prayer prayed, every act of faithfulness, every hard step of trust is a seed planted for someone else to harvest. That is an extraordinary legacy.

Romans 8:28
A Short Prayer

Dear God, even when things do not end the way I hoped or planned, help me trust that You are still good and Your story is still perfect. Help me run my race faithfully all the way to the end, knowing that nothing done in love for You is ever wasted. Amen.

The Death of Moses

Deuteronomy 34:5–12
Faithful to the End
Moses died on Mount Nebo at one hundred and twenty years old — and Scripture records something remarkable: his eyes were not dim, and his natural strength had not faded. God Himself buried him in a valley in Moab, and no one has ever found his grave. The Israelites mourned him for thirty days. And then Scripture closes his story with these words: no prophet has risen in Israel like Moses, whom the Lord knew face to face. He did not finish perfectly. But he finished faithfully — and that made all the difference.

If someone wrote a few sentences describing your life the way Scripture describes Moses — what would you want them to say?
Life Lesson
Finish well — a faithful life is the most powerful legacy of all

Moses did not finish perfectly — there were failures, moments of doubt, and one costly act of disobedience. But he finished faithfully. He kept showing up. He kept walking with God. He kept leading even when it was exhausting and thankless. At the end, God Himself came for him. A life of faithful obedience, stumbles and all, is still the most powerful and beautiful life a person can live.

2 Timothy 4:7
A Short Prayer

Dear God, help me finish well. Whatever You have called me to do — big or small, seen or unseen — help me do it faithfully, humbly, and with my whole heart, all the way to the very end. I want to be someone You knew face to face. Amen.
